How To Cook Rice - A Remarkably Easy Method You Need To Know
Cuisine: Gluten Free, Side dish
Servings: 3 people
- 1 cup white rice
- 2 cups water
I like to rinse my rice in a sieve/strainer before cooking, as this will clear out most impurities & excess starch from broken grains. If you can't be bothered, skipping this step won't ruin the dish!
To speed things up a bit, boil the kettle and put 2 cups of the boiled water into a small saucepan on high heat. Once that's reached a boil, put in the 1 cup of rice and stir immediately. If you don't stir straight away, you risk the rice sticking together and it being a lumpy mess.
Once that's reached a boil again, give it one last stir, reduce the heat to low, and pop on the lid. It's very important that you do not take off the lid during the cooking process, as this will mess with the moisture content & cooking time. Set a timer for 18 minutes, and go do something else for a bit.
Once your 18 minutes is up, turn off the heat and lift the lid - the rice should be looking pretty damn nice. Don't stir it yet - Once it's off the heat, put the lid back on and let it steam for another 2 minutes.
3 minutes later - You may now gently fluff your rice with a fork. Be sure to not just stir it; you must fluff it. Once your have successfully fluffed the rice, leave the lid off and let it sit for a sec - this will let it dry out a tad.
You may now consume your perfect rice - enjoy!
