After yoga on a Saturday morning, I just don’t feel like a big breaky. The other 23 hours of the day I do but just after getting all zen it just doesn’t feel right. I’ve walked past Green Cup in South Yarra so many times that I thought it was about time to try it, so popped into the light and bright store.
It’s a cute little store, with painted exposed brick walls and the lighter coloured wood tables & stools that are really on trend right now. I was once of 3 customers and didn’t have to line up long to order. I opted for the #3 Acai Bowl ($12, which seemed pretty steep, but whatever) which boasted a tasty list of ingredients including cacao nibs, peanut butter & strawberries on top of the basic blended acai, banana & almond milk.
I have to admit, I found the customer service a bit off-putting. Instead of being greeted with a smile and a hello, it was all very lacklustre and to the point. I would probably recommend that the front of house staff have some additional customer service training, as the impression I got (as a customer) was that I was interrupting by daring to order something.
It took about 5 minutes for my bowl to be ready and I went and collected it from the counter; a nicer touch would have been for it to have been brought out to me. I understand that when it’s busy that just wouldn’t be possible, but it would make it a more friendly experience when it’s quiet.
There was a decent amount of toppings and they definitely didn’t skimp on the peanut butter. Taste, texture & presentation was all spot on, and the ambience of the place was awesome – they were playing some sort of Eminem-themed mix which was legitimately amazing, and I got way too into it.
Overall, I’d recommend them if you’re passing by and wanting something relatively healthy. They won’t become my regular, only because I make my own acai bowls most weekends and can’t justify paying $12 for it, but I will definitely be back after yoga sometime.
