View PostWhen I was a kid I remember Mum & Dad taking me to the National Rhododendron Gardens in Olinda, Victoria, and I recall having fun, but that’s about it. So when Shona and I decided to head back up there as fully fledged adults and semi-functioning adults, I was excited to see if it was as entertaining as I remembered!
Only 50 minutes southeast of Melbourne is a little known 185 acre (75 hectare) avian paradise called Birdsland. I grew up in Mount Dandenong, and even then I hadn’t heard of this place till I went on an internet hunt for a new walking spot recently. There wasn’t a whole heap online about it, but it was only a 20 minute drive from where the horses live, so if it turned out to be a dud spot, no harm done.
When Imogen (of Chester The Blog) suggested we make the trip down to Bendigo to see the Toni Maticevski exhibition at the Bendigo Art Gallery, I was stoked. I love road trips, Bendigo and anything as beautiful as the pieces that Toni creates, so it was a match made in heaven. The exhibition’s ticketed in timed sessions, so we bought the 2pm Sunday tickets and planned to get lunch beforehand somewhere in Bendigo. The trip is a fairly cruisey 2 hour drive from Melbourne, and my Holden Calais was a dream to drive there; I so love having cruise control now! But…
